School Milk Scheme

The School Milk and Dairy Programme provides subsidised milk to pupils in Montessori, National and Secondary schools.

The maximum quantity of milk eligible for the subsidy is a quarter litre of milk (250ml) per pupil per school day. School Milk may only be provided to pupils attending schools as a beverage and may not be used in the preparation of meals served to pupils.

Connacht Gold delivers individual 250ml cartons of milk directly to schools at a cost of 25 cent per child, per day.

To register your school for the School Milk and Dairy Programme please contact Connacht Gold, who will provide you with a registration form (Voucher Application Form) and delivery and pricing information:

Sligo Dairies, Barnasraghy, Co. Sligo

Telephone: 071-9160883

Once the registration form has been completed and returned to the Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food by Connacht Gold, your school will be issued with a Voucher Number. This Voucher Number is unique and links your school to the dairy for School Milk.

Ordering

Once issued with a Voucher Number, Connacht Gold will provide order forms so that parents can register their child to receive School Milk. Parents should return completed forms and appropriate funds to the school. The school can then confirm to Connacht Gold the number of units of School Milk required each day.

School Milk Cartons

This September, Connacht Gold introduced a new Fresh Milk Club carton, designed specifically for school-going children. This carton now comes with a re-sealable cap which means that the carton can be resealed and taken home with pupils if they do not finish their drink at school. This helps to minimise the risk of spillages and product waste.

Refrigeration

In association with the National Dairy Council, Connacht Gold is providing schools with fridges to support their involvement in School Milk. In addition to fridges, schools may also receive cooler-bags to store milk where early morning deliveries occur. To find out if your school is entitled to a fridge or cooler-bags, please contact Connacht Gold or the NDC:

School Incentives

FAI School Liaison Programme

To support schools who wish to become involved in School Milk, Connacht Gold is running an awareness programme in partnership with Sligo Rovers and the National Dairy Council (NDC). This awareness programme emphasises the benefits of an active lifestyle and a healthy balanced diet and includes visits by trained Sligo Rovers personnel.

Schools that register 35% or more of their pupils for School Milk from September 2009 will receive a free school soccer coaching session and NDC sponsored soccer equipment packs. This soccer equipment includes footballs, goalposts, bibs, soccer planners and cones. Please note that stocks are limited and to ensure that your school doesn’t miss out, schedule an FAI School Liaison visit with the NDC or Connacht Gold straight away!
